University of Birmingham
In Birmingham, England, there is a public research institution called the University of Birmingham, also known as Birmingham University. As a successor to Queenโs College, Birmingham (founded in 1825 as the Birmingham School of Medicine and Surgery) and Mason Science College (founded in 1875 by Sir Josiah Mason), it was granted a royal charter in 1900, becoming the first civic or โred brickโ university in England to be granted a royal charter. It was also the first unitary university in England.
